About Forensic Hypnosis

Forensic hypnosis is a specialized technique employed in criminal and civil investigations to help witnesses or victims recall details of an event that may have been forgotten or repressed. It is distinct from therapeutic hypnosis and focuses strictly on memory retrieval for investigative purposes.

The Process

The process involves a highly trained and certified forensic hypnotist guiding the interviewee into a state of deep relaxation and focused attention, making the mind more receptive to accessing stored memories.

During the interview, the hypnotist employs specific, non-leading questioning techniques to avoid contaminating the witness's memory. The goal is to enhance the natural recall process — potentially bringing back sensory details (sights, sounds, smells, and feelings) that were peripheral to the conscious mind at the time of the event.

Documentation and Protocols

These sessions are always audio and often video recorded, and strict protocols must be followed to maintain the admissibility and reliability of the information in court.

Value in Investigations

When conducted properly by a professional, forensic hypnosis can serve as a valuable tool for cold-case breakthroughs and complex investigations, providing investigators with crucial, previously inaccessible leads.
